Narrative As Books The Day Jesus Rode Into Croydon

Oh Lord, what a waste of time this was. It had so much promise, but blundered into so much ridiculousness I couldn't take it any more. I am more than willing to suspend belief where required, but this was just plain silly.
As mentioned, it was good at first, cocooning me in the warm fuzziness of 80s nostalgia: quirky characters straight out of a Young Ones episode with overtures of a Madness video, childhood references and dry humour. Unfortunately around the 40% mark the author lost the plot and it fell flat into farce and nonsense. The coppers especially [eye roll] ...

Assessment Out Of Books The Day Jesus Rode Into Croydon
This book was absolutely dreadful. I read a lot of books but I cant remember the last time I read anything this bad. Its overloaded with superfluous dialogue and drawn out long winded passages that go nowhere. I cant understand how it even got published. It reads like it was written by a child who received a thesaurus for Christmas. How it received so many glowing reviews is anyones guess. I know what my guess is. Definitely one to avoid.

I've heard comparisons to Rankin about Daryl Gould. I'm not sure I agree. The plot is fantastical in parts but still realistically based (Rankin could lead you anywhere). But like Rankin the comedy monets are circumstancial and character driven, not straight one liners. I would describe it more a funny Palahniuk or Welsh. Story wise, brilliant and well deserving of five stars, glad to have read it.

Wow! Dont get books like this coming along very often.

Found myself thinking about this book even when I wasnt reading it. About half way through it was messing with my head because it doesnt fit into your normal genre so was left guessing what next but when it does all make sense, you know you've read something special.

What was the point of this? There were some amusing scenes, but the plot and characters failed to engage me.The story focusses on non-descript (blandness best expressed by the fact that he does a "job" - no idea what) Joseph who moves into a houseshare with a dopehead, Danny. He soon develops hallucinations that he has been chosen to save humanity. I found that this part developed slowly, lacked any form of drama or tension, and neither was it funny. The supporting cast includes a pair of
