The Dark Angel (original title: Johannes Angelos) is a novel by Finnish author Mika Waltari about a hopeless love affair and the Fall of Constantinople. The Finnish version was originally published in 1952, with an English edition being published in Great Britain in 1953.

از دیدگاه تاریخ: «سلطان محمد فاتح» باور داشت چیزی از «اسکندر مقدونی» کم ندارد. می‌خواست نام خود را همانند «اسکندر» جاودانه سازد، ولی برایش مرگ و از بین رفتن مزار اهمیت نداشت. روش‌های «سلطان محمد» برای فتح «استانبول»، از استثناهای روش‌های نظامی است، یکی از شاهکارهایش حمل بیش از بیست کشتی نظامی، از طریق خشکی به خلیج «شاخ طلایی» است، اینکار باعث شد خیال سلطان، از نظر جنگ دریایی راحت باشد. دیگر شاهکترش ساختن استحکامات دفاعی، در «تنگهٔ بسفر»، که امروز نیز قابل مشاهده‌ است. در بعضی روایتها آمده‌، که خود «سلطان محمد»، خشت درست می‌کرده، کار بنایی انجام می‌داده، تا بهانه و عذری، برای دیگران نماند. آنها در طول کمتر از یکسال، «تنگه بسفر» را به امن‌ترین استحکامات، مجهز کردند. اما سلاح برتر «سلطان محمد»، توپ بزرگ او، معروف به «توپ اورمان (نام سازندهٔ مجارستانی توپ جنگی» بود. نیز «سلطان محمد»، ارتشی بیش از سیصدهزار نفر داشته، و مواد و تجهیزات نظامی او، بیش از حد نیازش، برای گشودن کنستانتینوپل بوده، از نظر مالی نیز، در تنگنا نبوده، چرا که دولت عثمانی، هماره دولتی ثروتمند، و دارای منابع غنی، به شمار بوده است. او توانست پس از نبردی جانفرسا، مقاومت سرسختانه ی یونانیان، و رومیان را، در هم بشکند، و سرانجام کنستانتینوپل را فتح، و آن شهر با دیرینه ی بیش دوهزار سال را، برای نخستین بار بگشاید. سلطان پس از تصرف کنستانتینوپول، به مردمان ساکن شهر امان داد، و خانه ها، یا مراکز تجاری، مورد غارت و تجاوز، قرار نگرفتند، بسیاری از اسرای دولت، و ارتش روم نیز، توانستند با پرداخت مبلغ ناچیزی، آزادی خویش را باز بخرند. ا. شربیانی

Piece Epithetical Books The Dark Angel (Johannes Angelos #1)

I don't think its as good as some of his earlier books, but... to my opinion it gives an excellent picture of the absolutely weird network of the different intersecting interests during Constantinople's last christian days (intersecting among the emperor, his prime minister, the muslims, the Genovese and the rest western soldiers etc etc.)This is the reason I consider it a very useful book for anyone interested to understand what really happend in Constantinople back in 1453.

Beautiful story that contains history, romance shades of philosophy and poetry.

An interesting historical novel that was unfortunately burdened with a toilsome romance. Well researched, though obviously tainted by a heavy reliance on Barbaro's chronicle, Waltari maintains his context and continuity well and, with one really exceptional case, does not step beyond the bounds of historical plausibility. His knowledge of various figures is impressive though I remain doubtful of many of his characterizations, the motivations he provides for people in his world make sense given

Waltari certainly deserves to be known for his historical fiction. I thoroughly enjoyed this piece set on the last days of Constantinople.

Přesně tento typ historických románů já můžu. Takový, který vás vtáhne do děje a vy musíte za každou cenu zjistit, co bude dál, i když víte, jak to ke konci všechno dopadne. Výborné.

Βασικά 4,5 θα ήταν η πιο σωστή βαθμολογία.Είναι πραγματικά απορίας αξιο που ένα τέτοιο βιβλιο το έγραψε Φιλανδος!Γραφει για την Πόλη και τις μέρες της Άλωσης κι ειναι σα να νιώθεις τον πυρετό του,πραγματικά το συναίσθημα ρέει παντού στο βιβλιο.Γραφει πολύ σημαντικά πράγματα για το ρόλο διαφόρων στην Άλωση,Ελλήνων και ξένων.Πραγματα που σε βάζουν στον πειρασμό να το ψάξεις παραπάνω το θέμα.Και αυτο ειναι που κάνει το βιβλιο τόσο μεγάλο.
