Chronicle Supposing Books When Crickets Cry

A man with a painful past. A child with a doubtful future. And a shared journey toward healing for both their hearts.

It begins on the shaded town square in a sleepy Southern town. A spirited seven-year-old has a brisk business at her lemonade stand. But the little girl's pretty yellow dress can't quite hide the ugly scar on her chest.

Her latest customer, a bearded stranger, drains his cup and heads to his car, his mind on a boat he's restoring at a nearby lake. The stranger understands more about the scar than he wants to admit. And the beat-up bread truck careening around the corner with its radio blaring is about to change the trajectory of both their lives.

Before it's over, they'll both know there are painful reasons why crickets cry . . . and that miracles lurk around unexpected corners.

Article Of Books When Crickets Cry
Even though this book is a little predictable, it is a pleasant read and good for the "heart". It is a story of faith and a story of despair and a story of healing. Some great characters and some great quotes.

"Beautiful" the best word to describe this novel. Beautiful language, allusions, quotes, characters, story - all beautiful. You feel like a better person after reading this book. I suspect that if a heart surgeon read it he/she would say it's far-fetched, but I'm not a heart surgeon so I loved it! If you do buy the book, part of the proceeds go towards saving children with heart disease.Along with helping a great cause, there are so many quotable quotes, that I will probably buy the book just so

Such a poignant and moving story! Highly recommend, though I don't think it's for every reader. A few observations: I learned more than I ever wanted to know about the human heart and transplant surgery. I wish the story had unfolded in a more straight-forward manner; I get that it's how the main character revealed himself to those around him, but all those vague references and then doubling back to add more detail to an event only alluded to before got confusing and made me impatient. I think

Annie, is a seven year old girl with an ugly scar on her chest and running a lemonade stand to raise money. She meets Reese, a man trying to escape from his past. An accident, as a result of a bread truck, brings these two into a relationship that neither of them expected. I was quickly drawn into this book, learning about Reese, his childhood, his marriage and his past. Annie was a delightful child wise beyond her years. Life has dealt her more than one low blow. As you probably gathered this

Without exaggeration, this is one of the best works of contemporary fiction that I have ever read. The story is gripping, "heart-wrenching", filled with insights and literary quotes that will move your soul in ways that not many books do. I thought that I would get lost in the medical technicalities, but I found them fascinating--especially b/c my mother had open heart surgery in 2001. The characters are complex, rich, and make you wish you lived in the lakehouse next door! I can't say enough,

RTC 😳

My first Charles Martin book so far. I really like this author and I plan to read more of his books. I really like the fact that he is from this part of Florida, and his books incorporate places I am familiar with. (Much more in Wrapped in Rain than in this book, but this book is still close to home) I learned so much about the physical heart, and I loved the passionate main character and the little girl. Very emotional book that will make you want to read straight through to the end.
